Mulberry SS10 Look-book

Dear Viewers,

Blake Lively carrying Mulberry bag @ Anastasia & Duck
Blake Lively on the set of Gossip Girl

This picture of Miss Lively (aka Serena) on the set of Gossip Girl clutching her Mulberry Bayswater in Sludge Suede Croc-print got me thinking about the collection I saw in Fashion Week, so I had a quick flick through the Mulberry Look-book I got, and thought you might to have a look too!  I was actually quite impressed by the clothes - nothing ground-breaking, but relatively on-trend - although, of course, we're all much more interested in the bags...  And many bags there are!  In a full range of shapes and sizes, leathers and colours, including a few neons (and a hot pink leopard print :-S).  Check out the gear for dogs too!

For some reason, the hair styling seemed a bit Autum-Winter for me...

Gucci for Gucci

Dear Viewers,

I am obsessed with this Gucci for Gucci ad.  Not just because James Franco is smoulderingly hot (isn't he?), but because I adore Róisín Murphy's version of Bryan Ferry's "Slave To Love".  I wish she had released this as a single/put it on her last album - the video clip is over so quickly and I just want to hear more!  Oh well...

Flu-induced shopping rage

Dear Viewers,

Duck has the swine flu, if that's even possible.  In any case, he's sick.  And he's feeling the cold.  So he thought he'd stock up on the Uniqlo HeatTech clothes that everyone's talking about, to keep him nice and toasty.  Unfortunately, even though he managed to get the items he wanted into his Shopping Basket, the site keeps crashing everytime he tries to pay!  Uniqlo, if you're listening, puhlease fix the site, Duck needs his thermals!

Sniff sniff later sniff,

An Evening with Erdem

Dear Viewers,

Check out this latest press release from Erdem and everyone's favourite spectacle-makers, Cutler&Gross:

" An image of a tribe of Japanese fisherwomen dressed in brightly printed shorts charging out of the waves across black sand is what sparked Erdem’s imagination for the spring/summer ’10 Cutler and Gross collaboration. The pops of vibrant colors chosen juxtaposed with darker backgrounds work on a graphic and glamorously sixties style shape. This range marks the first collaboration between Erdem and Cutler and Gross. The spring/summer 2010 glasses are available in black, black lace, tortoise, a neutral stone, and Erdem’s customized designed Kyoto print, an intensely coloured abstract floral print for the new season ."

The collection will be launched on the 1219th November, 6-9pm at the Cutler and Gross Vintage Store in Knightsbridge, SW1 X7QL.  For enquiries, please contact monicachong@hotmail.co.uk .

London Fashion Week SS 10: Romina Karamanea

Dear Viewers,

Piece from Romina Karamanea's SS10 collection

CSM graduate Romina Karamanea just sent out her press-release for her SS10 show. I had tickets to this show, but unfortunately didn't make it to the venue in time because everything previously was running late... Anyway, you can check out their London-chic monochrome razor-cut shapes on the British Vogue website.  The architectural collection was "inspired by engineering and industrialisation"  with a "theme of disconnection".  The fashionista jargon aside, it is a very wearable collection.

Cheryl Cole wears Julien Macdonald SS10

Dear Viewers,

Am just getting my weekly X Factor fix and realised Cheryl Cole is wearing a dress from Julien Mcdonald's collection for next season...  I had read that the outfit she performed her first solo song in last week had been designed by him too.  I guess she is actually one of his target customers, given his love of sequins and sparkle :-)  I'll put up a picture of her in the dress as soon as there is one online (I'd give it an hour or two...) but for now you'll need to make do with a pic from the fashion show:

UPDATE: I found a picture of Cheryl in the dress-

Hallowe'en Blogging Fun

Dear Viewers,

Anastasia & Duck LOVE Hallowe'en.  It's our favourite holiday.  Except for Christmas, when we celebrate the birth of our Lord Cartier.  Just saw a HI-larious post on White Lightning's blog with an idea for a carved pumpkin for next weekend:

Pumpkin carved in the style of Lady Gaga

It's Lady Gaga!

Plaits

Dear Viewers,

Last season all the PPQ girls were sporting plaits pulled to one side.  At the time, I wasn't sure if this was a look that was going to take off. but I guess Amy and Percy had their fingers on the pulse of hair trends, because plaits have been popping up all over the catwalks for SS10.  For example, we have Miu Miu:

And Alexander Wang's tough NYC ladies also had the look:

So there we have it - plaits are in!  And from this season's runway shows we can see we're meant to be wearing them to our left now...

Tavi on POP

Dear Viewers,

I'm sure Tavi, everyone's favourite 13-year-old blogger needs no introduction, but I just noticed she's on the front cover of the current issue of glossy fashion bible POP.  I was worried it was going to go under after Katie Grand left to set up LOVE, but they seem to be doing alright on their own!

Mulberry for your iPod!

Dear Viewers,

Apple and Mulberry have recently collaborated to design a fabulous collection of bags for the computer giant's full range of laptops, iPods and iPhones!  I expect to see all the fashionistas around London proudly showing off their new Bayswater bags, laptops safely stored inside, ready for some post-show blogging.  Emma Hill, Mulberry's Creative Director said: ""Apple products are too beautiful to reside in drab bags! Apple and Mulberry share a legacy of craftsmanship and I'm thrilled that we were asked to be Apple's first luxury collaboration."  And this Duck is thrilled too!  The bags should be up online and in stores from Nov 1...  Let's see how fast they sell out.

SS10 Sunglasses Trend?

Dear Viewers,

I think I've started to notice a trend for futuristic circular sunglasses in the SS10 collections.  So far I've spotted them at Marios Schwab, Tim Hamilton and now Inbal Gvili (thanks Diane!).  I'm sure I saw them somewhere else too but the designer's name escapes me...  Please let me know if you see this style anywhere else!  I guess I'll need to get me some of these:

French Vogue Racist?

Dear Viewers,

Lara Stone with darkened skin wearing tribal-inspired clothing

Apparently there's a bit of a storm brewing in France, about French Vogue's decision to use these pictures of a blacked-up Lara Stone...  What do we think?  Is this art, racism, or just plain embarrassing?  Thanks to Kaplaarzen Magazine for the heads-up!

Anastasia & Duck: A Retrospective Part II

Dear Viewers,

Anna Jewsbury looking stunning at the opening drinks of LFW SS09 - don't you love her Lanvin skirt?!

The ubiquitous Mulberry LFW bags...

Yours truly at the SS09 On|Off party that was so badly organised, had hundreds of guests (with invites) queuing for hours...

A picture of the run-through at the Kaviar Gauche On|Off show - very pretty-pretty

Anastasia & Duck: A Retrospective

Dear Viewers,

Now that the Fashion Weeks are over, I thought I would post some pictures of our visits to London and Paris Fashion Weeks from previous seasons.  It is interesting to see how the collections, and more importantly, our own personal styles and haircuts have progressed...

Aminaka Wilmont's first show for AW 08/09 - it was inspired by vectors, apparently, although the mathematicians amongst us failed to notice them!

Anna Jewsbury of Eva London fame enjoying the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac AW 08/09 afterparty in Paris.  That night we ended up in Les Bains with a very nice ex-Chanel employee...

Everyone dressed up as cartoon characters for the party - Bianca Abulafia from  MTM London as Tinker Bell, Anna as Betty Boop!

A photo from Jean-Charles's AMAZING show!  This was the first large-scale production I saw and I fell in love with the fashion world immediately.  It was so playful and exciting, and also introduced us to Curry + Coco  - SEX IS FASHION!

Anna posing like a flamingo in her Temperley dress outside the Louvre

Bianca, demure as always...

A blurrrry shot from Elie Saab - I was very excited!

I'll be uploading more pics over the next week or so, so keep checking back!

Giles

Dear Viewers,

Just had a chance to look at Giles Deacon's latest collection from last week in Paris. The collection was all about "day-glo ninja dinosaur" (I still have the really annoying song stuck in my head...) and was metallic, neon, bright, covered in spider prints, fun and very very confusing.  For once, Style.com liked it, although British Vogue wasn't so sure, and Suzy Menkes writing in the New York Times didn't seem entirely convinced either.  It was upbeat and playful, and reminded me of Castelbajac (where Giles used to work), especially the dinosaur handbags.  But it didn't seem totally cohesive, or going anywhere.  Giles is a designer whose aesthetic I've never really "got" - I often think he uses ugly shapes and some of his clothes are neither avant-garde nor attractive.  It was nice to see a new side to him, but I do hope he is going somewhere with this new route...

Paris Fashion Week SS10 Update: John Galliano

Dear Viewers,

You must watch this video, not only were John Galliano's clothes beautiful (as were the Stephen Jones hats), but I HAVE TO GET A SMOKE-FILLED BUBBLE MACHINE!  Imagine the looks I'd get walking down the street surrounded by beautiful bubbles bursting into smoky nothingness...
