Antoni & Alison - Jean Charles de Castelbajac called, he wants his sketchbook back!
Still uploading all my videos from my Flip HD to Youtube... this here is a little video compilation I took at the Antoni & Alison presentation at Somerset House. They had created this weird video installation that I guess was supposed to put you in the confused frame of mind to "get" the extreme uses of trompe l'oeil effects in their clothing aferwards. Hoods, pockets and bows were all drawn onto dresses and tops cartoon-style, rather than creating them from real materials. There were also several prints designed to mimic more textured fabrics, such as wool, which covered silky tops, skirts and dresses. All of this was fine, if not quite to my taste, but I was more concerned with the cartoon sketches in primary colours, which were more than a little reminiscent of Jean-Charles de Castelbajac's legendary drawings (they are splattered not only all across his collections, but also his store walls and his Facebook page, if you happen to be one of his 5000 friends :) ). They say copying is the highest form of flattery, so I hope JC/DC sees it that way...
In other news, I believe JC is showing his latest collection in Paris today, so good luck to him! Can't wait to see it :-)
Quack quack (what sound do ducks make in Germany?)
