Some people say most guys are either boobs or bums men. Likewise, popular culture dictates that women either fetishise shoes or bags (because their immature sexuality is, of course, displaced onto inanimate objects). Well, I'm never going to be most guys and, up until recently, I haven't been most women either. Expensive accessories have never really drawn me in and I've always splashed out on more obvious pieces like gorgeous (garish?) shirts or comedy jumpers.
Maybe, however, I'm evolving because I feel like bags are becoming more my thing. Case in point, I put the remainder of my Liberty gift coin towards this moulded neoprene clutch bag from 3.1 Phillip Lim. I love that the practical outside hides the secret luxury of soft black leather inside, not to mention whatever I choose to carry within. I took it to the Frieze launch as part of my power-art-world-mega-buyer-don't-you-dare-look-at-me look – slim black boots, tight black trousers, a Margiela long-sleeved black top and my favourite Neil Barrett coat with the pony leather sleeves – and relished the envious glances I received from the international jet-set. Did I say I was maturing? Maybe I've just found somewhere even more ridiculous to store my chewing gum.
